Ernest Williams, the William R. Kenan Professor of Biology Emeritus, photographed more than 30 varieties of wildflowers and flowers in bloom in the Root Glen during the weekend of May 2 -3.

A new economic impact study commissioned by the Albany-based Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) for its members found that Hamilton鈥檚 estimated economic impact in the Mohawk Valley for 2018-19 totaled $325.5 million.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of really cool things that you can study with physics, but I feel that if we don鈥檛 solve our energy crisis within my lifetime, none of that鈥檚 really going to matter. ... I want to help with that matter, help with that push, by either working on renewable energy or carbon capture that can really make in impact before it鈥檚 too late,鈥� said Catherine Ryczek 鈥�21, who will soon join the physics doctoral program at the California Institute of Technology.

It鈥檚 been a roundabout route for screenwriter and film producer Sherry Klein 鈥�86, who released her first self-produced feature in February. Paradise Cove is a thriller about a couple who are being terrorized by a woman who lives under the Malibu beach house they are renovating.

When thinking about his post-Hamilton path, Noah Giovanelli 鈥�21 knew he wanted to pursue Hispanic studies combined with traveling. His interest arose from the many friends he had from Spanish-speaking countries in high school and a program in Madrid he participated in during his junior year.

Activist, leader, and musician Xiuhtezcatl Martinez鈥攁lso known as 鈥淴鈥濃�� shared his message about climate and social justice and other topics, in a conversation with the Hamilton community on April 22. Mckela Kanu 鈥�22 and Tenzin Sherpa 鈥�23 moderated the conversation, which was part of The C. Christine Johnson Voices of Color Lecture Series.

After interning at Cornerstone Mobile Counseling, Sophia Coren 鈥�21 has landed a full-time position at the company founded and directed by Ward Halverson 鈥�92. Cornerstone, based in Herkimer, N.Y., links individuals to local, licensed mental health professionals for free and immediate counseling in their homes or virtually across the state of New York.

Anna Bastidas 鈥�13 and Devin Farkas 鈥�10 recently landed jobs in outdoor education as the associate director of the Bowdoin College Outing Club and the assistant director of Outdoor Programs at the University of Vermont, respectively. Day-to-day, Bastidas works closely with outing club officers, runs student leader training, and organizes orientation trips. Farkas oversees many outdoor-based clubs and directs the pre-orientation program.

During his first few years at Hamilton, Keith Wellin 鈥�50 was enjoying college life perhaps a little too much. As a junior he approached Dean Winton Tolles and asked about the possibility of gaining admission to Harvard鈥檚 Graduate School of Business Administration. The dean鈥檚 reply? 鈥淢r. Wellin, surely you jest.鈥�

Economics major Ben Gardner 鈥�21 has been named a Robert Day Scholar at Claremont McKenna College, where he will pursue a master鈥檚 in finance. He talks here about the program and how he learned about it.
