Jonathan Dong 鈥�21 has been awarded the College鈥檚 prestigious Bristol Fellowship to explore The Global Rise in Sustainable Aquaculture by traveling to Mexico, Chile, Kenya, Singapore, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.

Buff & Bloom is a plant giving program to support student mental health and overall wellness co-sponsored by the Peer Counselors, the Counseling Center, and the Dean of Students Office. Student organizer Lucas Wright 鈥�21 talks here about the wildly popular program in which 800 students picked up free plants outside the Annex last week.

Five students were awarded prizes in three categories in the annual Public Speaking Competition that took place this year over Zoom. Presentations were either persuasive or informative in nature, and in one category, students addressed an assigned topic.

Amy Harff 鈥�21, Jiin Jeong 鈥�21, and Liam Prum 鈥�21 have been named Watson Fellows, with each receiving a $36,000 stipend to pursue a 鈥測ear of independent, purposeful exploration鈥� abroad. The prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship is awarded to graduating seniors nominated by one of 41 partner institutions.

Six faculty members were approved for tenure by Hamilton鈥檚 Board of Trustees at its recent meeting. They include Catherine Beck (geosciences), Erica De Bruin (government), Susan Jarosi (art history), Jaime Kucinskas, (sociology), Alexandra Plakias (philosophy), and Jesse Weiner (classics).

Eleanna 鈥淓le鈥� Sorensen 鈥�23 will hone her long-time interest in the Arabic language as the recipient of a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).

Hamilton鈥檚 inaugural ALEX (Advise, Learn, EXperience) advisors are preparing to launch the new program that links advising, academic support, and experiential learning. The advisors are Dean of Engaged Education Kathy Wolfe, Kevin Alexander 鈥�13, Janine Oliver, and Hannah Stubley 鈥�12.

For the 11th consecutive year, Hamilton has been named a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Top Producing Institution. Hamilton had 27 applicants for the 2020-21 academic year application cycle, including one alum. Fourteen students were named semi-finalists, 10 received the grant, and two were selected as alternates.

Due to the extended break between the fall and spring semesters, Hamilton鈥檚 Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center offered students the opportunity to spend the time conducting research. Some 39 students and 13 faculty-led groups 鈥� with an additional 40 students doing聽research as part of team聽 鈥撀� collaborated on a variety of projects that ranged from the philosophical endeavor of community-based teaching to militarized policing and political stability.聽聽
