Hillary Bison贸 Ortega 鈥21, an art and cinema and media studies major, received a Smallen Creativity Grant for her project 鈥淎 Tale of Two Bushwicks,鈥 a photographic documentation of changes in the neighborhood where she grew up. She describes the project below. Her work and that of 12 other senior art majors is on display at the Wellin Museum through May 20.

Lucille Kline 鈥22 has been awarded a Critical Language Scholarship to study Russian through a virtual program offered by the University of Nizhny Novgorod. The Critical Language Scholarship is a program run by the U.S. Department of State for intensive language study in 15 critical languages.

Will Andriola is eager to share his Hamilton Debate Team experience with debate students in Bulgaria over the next year while serving there as the recipient of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA). Bulgarian Fulbright ETAs contribute to coaching BEST (Bulgarian English Speech and Debate Tournament) Foundation debate teams. 鈥淎fter three years competing on Hamilton鈥檚 debate team, I thought it would be a great way to help students improve their confidence and public speaking skills,鈥 said Andriola.

Two Hamilton seniors and a recent alumna have been awarded Fulbright Teaching Assistantships to Spain for the 2021-22 academic year. Tim Derby 鈥21 and Gianni Hill 鈥21, along with Loren Rodriguez 鈥20, will teach English under the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.

Hamilton has announced plans for an in-person commencement ceremony for members of the Class of 2021 on Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Bachelor鈥檚 degrees will be awarded to 484 graduates. Due to current New York State restrictions on public gatherings, attendance will be limited to the graduates and those participating in the ceremony.
