Named for Hamilton鈥檚 19th president, the Joan Hinde Stewart Career Development Program (JHS) supports and guides the career development of first-generation college students. This summer, a number of students involved in the program are exploring career interests at internships in a range of professional fields.

Little did John Troast 鈥�23 imagine, when he wrote a 20-page paper for Chamberlain Fellow and Visiting Professor of History Ty Seidule, that his words would be featured on the homepage of a national news site.

Sometimes, the perfect opportunity requires a bit of perseverance to obtain. This was certainly the case for Ellie Silk 鈥�22, who landed an internship at New York鈥檚 Hirschl and Adler Galleries.

Major national and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, and students for their聽expertise and聽perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus.

The idea of a summer research project might bring to mind images of laboratories and libraries. But for Malik Irish 鈥�22, it looks a lot different. The sociology and art double major is currently working on music videos to accompany an EP he鈥檚 writing titled Fantasy World: Living in the System.

鈥淒o what you鈥檙e passionate about.鈥� This advice from a Hamilton alum inspired America Grafton 鈥�24 to create the Mojave Art Collective, a project that combines her interests in art and the environment.

Riley Nichols 鈥�21 will be taking a position as a progressive education fellow at Buxton School this fall. Here, Nichols describes her passion for education and how it was shaped by her time at Hamilton.

Andrew Little, a music and creative writing double major, undertook a research project to 鈥渕ake an instrument out of the whole color spectrum.鈥�

Lauren Hamilton 鈥�22 didn鈥檛 need virtual assistant Alexa to help her find an internship this summer. Hamilton is spending her summer at a New Jersey Amazon facility working as a workplace health and safety intern, ensuring that employees are using equipment properly and observing COVID-19 regulations, while keeping an eye on the site鈥檚 working conditions in general.
