Household names like Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Amy Poehler, and Stephen Colbert are just a few notable pat members of the Chicago improv group The Second City. This summer, Ben Leit 鈥�22 will be studying comedy in a program hosted by this very group, in conjunction with Columbia College Chicago.

A typical student research project might build on information found in various online or print resources. Hongyu Zhang 鈥�24 is working with data from a slightly more extraterrestrial source: NASA鈥檚 Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) telescope.

Amidst the empty, repetitive days of COVID-19 quarantine, Will Rampe 鈥�24 embraced the opportunity to look into a potential career path. 鈥淚 got more into learning about contemporary political issues, but also about political theories and broader phenomena,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 decided I鈥檇 be interested in seeing what the profession is all about.鈥�

Major national and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, and students for their聽expertise and聽perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus.

Three Hamilton students 鈥� Anokhi Manchanda 鈥�22, Cole Kuczek 鈥�23, and Henry Schwob 鈥�22 鈥� are working on summer research projects concerning police and court reforms and a potential human rights commission in the Utica area.

For many Hamilton students, a trip to the Howard Diner delivers little more than a late-night meal. But for Yenesis Alvarez 鈥�22, it provided an unexpected academic opportunity. 鈥淚 remember [during] my freshman year,鈥� she recalled, 鈥渢his random guy at the diner came up to me and was like, 鈥楬ey, do you want to learn about our business program?鈥欌��

The Alumni Council nominated and elected three candidates this month to serve as members of the Board of Trustees for four-year terms beginning on July 1. They are Phyllis A.H. Breland 鈥�80, Eric F. Grossman 鈥�88, and Lindsey Pizzica Rotolo 鈥�97.

Professor of Religious Studies Heidi Ravven co-authored an essay titled Celebrate voting: A different approach to securing a democratic American future in the June 20 issue of The Hill with Marc Gropin, a professor at George Mason University.

Upon their retirement, Hamilton professors are recognized in the program distributed at Commencement. Because the pandemic prevented an in-person聽event in 2000, this spring's program featured all 14 faculty members who retired over the past two academic years.

But the pharmaceutical giant is concerned with far more than COVID-19 鈥� just ask Ben Jakubczak 鈥�23, who will be working remotely for Pfizer this summer. Jakubczak鈥檚 position will be as a research assistant, analyzing data on spontaneous blindness in Wistar Han rats in order to aid future toxicology studies.
