Course Description: How does group membership (e.g., sex, race, ethnicity, religion) shape one鈥檚 experiences with the criminal justice system? Adopting a chronological approach through an exemplar criminal case (e.g., arrest, arraignment, plea bargaining, trial, sentencing, release), this course will use case law and empirical research to explore the law鈥檚 continuing efforts鈥攁nd shortcomings鈥攊n addressing and decreasing bias.
