Course Description:

Theoretical and methodological examination of how leadership potential is socially constructed, evaluated, and rewarded, and how these processes are shaped by gender stereotypes. Topics include leadership prototypes, role congruity and lack-of-fit models, backlash and bias, intersectionality, and the effects of gender and race on leadership evaluations. Class time is devoted to in-depth analysis of research articles and case studies, along with student-led discussions and presentations. Laboratory component involves two original research projects with data collection, statistical analysis, scholarly writing, and oral presentations.
