Course Description: The major problems of American foreign policy since the republic鈥檚 founding and the varying approaches U.S. leaders have adopted to cope with American power and principles. Theories are illustrated with detailed examples since WWI. Some attention given to how foreign policy is shaped by government structure, political culture, organizational dynamics, individual psychology, economic interests and other causes. Students will analyze the limitations of various types of explanations and why policy implementation at times diverges from the intentions of decision-makers.
