Course Description: | The antibiotics discovered in the early to mid-20th century have saved more lives than any other medicine. Many of these drugs are no longer effective. In this course, we will discuss, at the molecular level, antibiotic structures, their cellular targets, and strategies to overcome drug resistance. Relevant topics in bacterial physiology will also be discussed with an emphasis on the cell envelope. |
