Course Description:

An introduction to the biology of microorganisms, with an emphasis on clinical relevance. Topics include the structure and function of microbes, including their metabolism and genetics. The course covers mechanisms of Infectious disease transmission and the interactions between microbes and their hosts, aseptic technique, and the role of the human body's normal microbiota. The biology of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic pathogens and the diseases they cause are also covered. Laboratory exercises emphasize the isolation, identification, and control of microorganisms. Primarily intended for students entering health professions.
