Course Description:

Examines the role mathematics plays in the construction and perpetuation of social stratification, as well as the influence of social categorization on the development of mathematics and mathematicians. Works such as Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O’Neil, and Radical Equations: From Mississippi to the Algebra Project by Bob Moses ‘56 may be included. One-half course credit. Open only to mathematics and data science concentrators.
