I Miss Soda

I miss drinking soda. Ever since my kidney scare back in April, I limit my intake of soda. My kidneys have lacerations and the doctor said I was almost close to getting a chronic kidney disease and it was a good thing that they caught the infection when they did.

My favorite Soda, decaffeinated root beer

It was their fault in the first place, I told them I didn’t have freakin’ tonsilitis when I was admitted but no one listened to me and they treated me for an illness I did not have in the first place for 3 freaking days. I am still angry at that hospital and at the residences who obviously had no idea what the hell they were doing.X( They diagnosed my illness incorrectly and racked up my hospital bill, charging me for medication I didn’t need in the first place.

I will never go back to that hospital again, they are not concerned about their patients, they are more concerned about how much money they are going to make from their patients. It sucks, Saint Louis University Hospital used to be the leading hospital in Baguio City because of its excellent service, now it’s known for having the most incompetent of residences and nurses. I’m not saying everyone in the hospital is useless, there are a few nurses there who really took care of me and attended to my needs with just a click of the buzzer and I will be grateful to them forever, but the doctors, OMG, they spell stupid. If B’s doctor friend didn’t check on me on the 3rd day, I would probably be undergoing dialysis right now. I switched to B’s doctor friend on the 3rd day and by the 5th day, I was doing better already.

In as much as I want to indulge in junk food and soda, I’m scared of hurting my kidneys and suffering the consequences. I can drink soda, but I’m much too scared to risk it. B wants to buy me a soda siphon also known as a seltzer bottle, that way I can make sparkling water in the comforts of our own home and quench my thirst for soda. Sparkling water is the base ingredient in most sodas, but because there aren’t a lot of other chemicals mixed into it, it’s much safer for the kidneys. Also, I can add in my favorite fruit to add some health value into it, like apple or lemon slices.

Soda siphons were really popular in the 1920′s to 1930′s. People then made their own sparkling water, however, after the second world war, manufacturing of siphons ceased because most of the factories that made them were destroyed in the war. Just like all old and nice things, it’s making a comeback. I for one love it and I am already on the look out for chic soda siphons that come with soda chargers that are recyclable and never expire.

I can almost see it, me, enjoying my very own home made sparkling water, thanks to my soda siphon…:>” /></p>

I don't keep soda in the house. I rarely let my kids drink them. It's healthier to drink water or juice.

Oh that's pretty sad. Grabe naman yang hospital na iyan. That's so careless of them to be mistaken of anyone's illness. OMG! No wonder ang dami ng kasong malpractice againsts doctors and nurses ngayon.

Papabasa ko nga ito kay DK. He loves drinking softdrinks kahit na umaga. Tsk! Kaya minsan I always order iced tea. Para na rin kay Una, mahilig din sa softdrinks yun, nakikita kasi sa daddy niya.

  6. I love soda too, but I’ve been trying to cut down. I’ve had a bit of a kidney scare myself sometime in the past.

Thank God you’re better now! Teaches us a thing or two about being more discerning when it comes to hospitals.

That sounds cool Ane and so much better for you. I limit myself to only one soda a day. With the family if i let them they could drink 10 sodas a day easily. I wonder if would taste the same that soda siphon? I am very glad to here you are doing much better. I would have gave that hospital a piece of my mind for what they did to you. :@

Thanks Bill, it was a horrible experience and I never want to go to the hospital ever again, I even told B that if my kidneys were to fail, to just let them fail, no tubes and meds for me anymore.. :P
